Engine weight has been reduced by innovatively combining lightweight materials for the BMW 730i's straight six-cylinder engine has decreased weight by 10 kg. And in both diesel engines, the aluminum crankcase saves up to 30 kg. This overall weight reduction enables all six-and-eight cylinder engines to deliver increased performance while reducing fuel consumption by up to five percent.
Performance runs on air.
Thanks to Valvetronic, the BMW 7 Series petrol engines benefit from a fully-variable intake valve lift. The petrol and air mix flows freely into the combustion chambers allowing the engine to work more efficiently at lower revs, and the fully variable intake manifolds optimise the torque curve. The result? Increased performance at reduced fuel consumption.
